Every job should be both fulfilling and challenging, and once again, I found myself working in the musical genre, this time with the Trolls of DreamWorks.
About a year into production, the project faced its biggest challenge: the lockdown. In March 2020, COVID-19 abruptly shut down production. We were sent home on a Friday with no idea when (or if) we would return to the office.
By the following Wednesday, I had successfully set up the show from my home in Simi Valley. Production resumed, schedules were maintained, episodes continued moving forward, and I assisted teammates in troubleshooting and rebuilding their own remote setups when necessary.
This experience fundamentally transformed our work, communication, and collaboration. It clarified what truly benefits from being in the same room and what can still thrive remotely when trust and problem-solving are in place.
From March 2020 through June 2021, we produced episodes of TrollsTopia for Hulu and Peacock. It was a successful run on a fantastic show, supported by talented directors, story artists, and a team that demonstrated what was possible under unprecedented circumstances.
