In March and April of 2013, I joined Bento Box Animation during the development phase of Hulu’s The Awesomes, an adult animated comedy created by Seth Meyers and Mike Shoemaker.The series presented unique challenges due to the writers, performers, and creators being based in New York and heavily committed to Saturday Night Live. With no director attached at the time and limited production support, the development process demanded a high level of independence and creative problem-solving. I was entrusted with a broad range of responsibilities, including shaping material, supporting story development, and helping land jokes and humor as the show took shape.After several months, production transitioned to Bento Box’s Georgia studio, marking the end of my involvement with the series. The experience was both demanding and rewarding, and I cherished the opportunity to work within the comedic sensibility of Seth Meyers and the SNL creative circle during an important early stage of the show’s development.
